Prince William Brings Hugs, Selfies, and Coastal Spirit to North Wales
The Prince of Wales returned to North Wales today for a heartfelt visit centered around young people living in coastal communities — and the reception he received was nothing short of electric. With the sun shimmering across Colwyn Bay, Prince William strolled along the sands to meet members of the Marine Conservation Society’s Youth Ocean Network, as well as volunteers and local youths from the Hiraeth Yn Y Môr project.
What began as a formal engagement quickly transformed into something much more personal. William’s relaxed energy, humor, and genuine enthusiasm won over the crowd within minutes. By the time he made it halfway down the shoreline, the Prince had already been swept into warm hugs, spontaneous conversations, and a wave of selfie requests he happily obliged.
For the young people he met, the visit was more than symbolic — it was empowering. Many shared their experiences working on marine conservation projects, tackling plastic pollution, restoring habitats, and advocating for the future of their coastline. William listened intently, offering encouragement and acknowledging the huge role youth activism plays in environmental change.
The Prince spoke with members of the Youth Ocean Network about their efforts to protect marine life and improve community engagement along the Welsh coast. With many attendees coming from small or rural communities, the visit served as recognition of their dedication — and a reminder that their voices matter on a national and global level.
William also connected with volunteers from Hiraeth Yn Y Môr (“Longing for the Sea”), a community project aimed at fostering inclusion, environmental stewardship, and cultural pride among local youths. The group’s young members proudly walked him through their initiatives, from beach clean-ups to creative coastal storytelling.
As one teenager said after snapping a selfie with the future king:
“He wasn’t just here to visit us — he was here to understand us.”
Between heartfelt exchanges, bursts of laughter, and snapshots capturing the moment, the atmosphere along Colwyn Bay felt almost more like a family reunion than a royal engagement. It was a reminder of William’s long-standing connection to Wales, as well as his commitment to championing young people who are shaping their communities with passion and purpose.
By the end of the visit, the Prince of Wales had left behind more than a series of memorable photos — he left behind inspiration, recognition, and hope for the next generation of ocean guardians.
And according to those who walked beside him,
it was the most joyful beach day North Wales has seen in a long time.
