President Donald Trump fumed in a late-night social media post Sunday that Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, should either be hauled off to jail or sent to Somalia.

“There is 19 Billion Dollars in Minnesota Somalia Fraud. Fake ‘Congresswoman’ Illhan Omar, a constant complainer who hates the USA, knows everything there is to know,” the president wrote in a Truth Social post. “She should be in jail, or even a worse punishment, sent back to Somalia, considered one of the absolutely worst countries in the World. She could help to MAKE SOMALIA GREAT AGAIN!”

Omar, the first Somali American to serve in Congress, was born in Somalia and became a U.S. citizen in 2000. She has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2019.

HuffPost reached out to the White House and Omar’s office for comment.

Trump and Omar have been embroiled in an intensifying feud after the right-wing leader has repeatedly called for her to be sent back to Somalia. Their rift ramped up after the Trump administration launched investigations into social services fraud in Minnesota, with Trump targeting the Somali population in the state.

Trump’s post aimed at Omar came after he claimed early Sunday morning in another Truth Social post that she and “crooked” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) were “fighting” off ICE operations in the state to keep the “attention off” the federal fraud probe in Minnesota.

“ICE is removing some of the most violent criminals in the World from our Country, and bring them back home, where they belong. Why is Minnesota fighting this? Do they really want murderers and drug dealers to be ensconced in their community?” he wrote.

Claiming that the “thugs that are protesting include many highly paid professional agitators and anarchists,” he continued: “Is this really what Minnesota wants?”

The crooked Governor and ‘Congresswoman’ Omar, who married her brother, don’t mind because it keeps the focus of attention off the 18 Billion Dollar, Plus, FRAUD, that has taken place in the State! Don’t worry, we’re on it!”

Omar and Walz have both defended their state.

In December, Trump continued his attacks on the Somali immigrants living in Minnesota, accusing them without evidence of being “scammers” and “lowlifes” in a Truth Social post.

He singled out Omar as “one of the many scammers.” She has not been accused of any wrongdoing.

“Send them back from where they came, Somalia, perhaps the worst, and most corrupt, country on earth,” he declared.

Meanwhile, Omar has decried Trump’s “obsession” with her on social media, calling it “beyond weird” in an X post on Dec. 9, 2025.

“He needs serious help. Since he has no economic policies to tout, he’s resorting to regurgitating bigoted lies instead. He continues to be a national embarrassment,” she wrote.
