Queen Camilla Cancels Engagements in New Royal Health Blow
Queen Camilla has pulled out of public engagements on doctors’ orders, having become “unwell with a chest infection,” Buckingham Palace announced.
The 77-year-old has had to cancel a high-profile remembrance event on Thursday, but hopes to be well enough to attend Britain’s main Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph in London this weekend.
The queen’s illness comes after a turbulent year in which both King Charles III and Princess Kate were diagnosed with cancer.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “Her Majesty the queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.
With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s remembrance events as normal.
“She apologizes to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”
Camilla recently returned from a major tour of Australia with both highs and lows, including a high profile protest in the Australian Parliament and crowds of thousands at Sydney Opera House.
The royal couple reportedly stopped off in India on the way home for a spa break to recover.
At one stage in February, Camilla was the most senior working royal as the king was in the early stages of treatment and Kate was recovering from abdominal surgery, with Prince William also taking time out of front line duties to be by her side.
