Prince William Reflects on His Mission for The Earthshot Prize — and His Renewed Inspiration from Brazil
In an exclusive interview with HELLO!, Prince William has spoken candidly about his environmental mission, his excitement for The Earthshot Prize, and his recent trip to Brazil — a journey he says has “reignited” his optimism for the planet’s future.
The Prince of Wales, who founded The Earthshot Prize in 2020 to reward innovative solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges, described the initiative as “the most meaningful project” of his public life.
> “Everywhere I go, I meet people doing extraordinary work with limited resources,” William shared. “It reminds me that real change begins with those who care deeply — not with governments or grand gestures, but with individuals who take action.”
Speaking about his recent visit to Rio de Janeiro, William said the trip left a lasting impression. From visiting reforestation sites to engaging with youth-led sustainability programs, he described Brazil as “a nation of hope and heart.”
> “Brazil’s natural beauty is breathtaking,” he said. “But what truly moved me were the communities working tirelessly to protect it. Their energy, optimism, and resilience are what The Earthshot Prize is all about.”
The Prince also revealed how travel continues to shape his perspective — not just as a global figure, but as a father.
> “Seeing the world through my children’s eyes gives everything new meaning,” he added. “I want George, Charlotte, and Louis to grow up believing that healing the planet is not just possible — it’s happening.”
Royal commentators have praised William’s grounded yet forward-thinking approach, noting how his focus on collaboration and local empowerment sets him apart. As the next Earthshot Prize ceremony approaches, he hopes the world will continue to see environmentalism not as a burden, but as an opportunity for innovation and unity.
> “Hope is powerful,” he concluded. “If we choose it — together — there’s nothing we can’t fix.”
