PRESIDENTIAL PROMISE: Trump says he will personally call Savannah Guthrie and offer additional federal assistance following her mother’s apparent abduction in Arizona.

President Donald Trump said the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, was “terrible” and revealed he plans to call the news anchor.

“I think it’s terrible,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday, Feb. 3 in the Oval Office after he was asked about the case.

Trump said he would support federal help as Arizona law enforcement continues the search for Guthrie’s mother, who was reported missing this week. Police have said they are treating her home as a crime scene.

The president also told reporters that it was a “very unusual situation,” adding that he’s always liked Guthrie.

“I’m going to call her later on,” Trump said.

Nancy Guthrie’s family reported her missing on Sunday, Feb. 1 from her home in the Catalina Foothills community, just north of Tucson, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. She was last seen the prior evening, around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a Feb. 2 press conference.

Nanos has said Guthrie “suffers from some physical ailments” and takes medication that, if missed in a 24-hour period, “could be fatal.”

On Monday, Feb. 2, authorities confirmed investigators believed Nancy Guthrie “was taken from the home” and said the case was being considered as a “possible kidnapping or abduction.” The FBI is assisting in the investigation.
