Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs left vulnerable after tight win as Pat McAfee exposes team’s revealing stats
Even after being back-to-back champions, securing their 10th win of the season, and achieving 18 victories in their last 19 games if we include last season, the Kansas City Chiefs (10-1) still appear to be falling short of expectations this year, and the team knows this. Despite their impressive record, they seem weaker than it suggests. However, with Patrick Mahomes leading the team, the Chiefs always find a way to remain in contention. No matter how little time is left or how far behind they are, they always seem to have a chance to win any game.
The Chiefs beat the team with the worst record of the last two years. It was expected to be an easier game after dominating the first three quarters and building an 11-point lead. However, Bryce Young was able to tie the game up, even though he gave Mahomes too much time on the clock. With a career record of 99-26, Mahomes is likely to secure his 100th win in the NFL’s first-ever Black Friday game against the Raiders.
I’m not the only one who thinks the Chiefs could be even better. It’s not about their ability to grind out big wins – they excel at that – but rather that more is expected of a team with their pedigree. Injuries have also prevented them from looking like the team they envisioned in the offseason. On today’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show, a series of stats highlighted how the Chiefs have mastered the art of winning close games, showcasing their expertise in the famous “situational football”.
These Chiefs know how to win, and that should strike fear into the hearts of other teams come playoff time. Their expertise in close, high-stakes games makes them even more dangerous. It’s worth noting, however, that they’ve had fewer double-digit leads than 20 of the league’s 32 teams this season. Of course, the Chiefs might argue, “What’s the point of those leads if we’re still sitting on top?”
Also the fact that seven of the last eight playoff games have been decided by one score makes it clear that they know how to win but also puts the rivals in the same position, who ever makes a mistake or has the opportunity to score at the end of the game might win it.
