Golden Bachelor Meltdown: Gerry Turner Reportedly ‘In Tears’ After Theresa Nist Locked the Bedroom Door!
Gerry Turner, 74, the lead of the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor, has spoken out about the factors that led to his three-month marriage to Theresa Nist ending, and what life was like immediately afterward.
Background & marriage timeline
Turner and Nist met on Season 1 of the show, got engaged in November 2023, married in January 2024, and announced their separation just three months later.
What went wrong?
In his new memoir, Golden Years: What I’ve Learned from Love, Loss, and Reality TV, Turner reveals that he had “some doubts” leading up to the marriage and believes he should have spotted red flags earlier.
One specific anecdote: in an excerpt released by Entertainment Weekly, he says that during his first visit to Nist’s New Jersey home after the wedding, she asked him to “sleep on the sofa” because she had a big workday the next morning. He says the arrangement lasted multiple nights, and there was no discussion of moving into the bed together.
He writes that this incident made him question the depth of their connection and triggered a sense of rejection and emotional distance.
Communication & split
Turner says the two have had very limited contact since their separation. In an exclusive interview, he explained that a recent text from Nist asking about his upcoming memoir was their first interaction in many months.
Nist has publicly stated that she does not believe Turner’s cancer diagnosis factored into their breakup, countering Turner’s claim that it played a significant role.
What’s next?
Turner is set to release his memoir, in which he details the behind-the-scenes of their short-lived union and reflects on his life, love and losses.
Meanwhile, both parties appear to be moving forward independently — Turner recently became engaged to another woman.
