When Taylor Swift fans crowded into a busy stadium in Warsaw, Poland on Aug. 1, many were stunned and impressed when everyone took part in a moment of silence in recognition of the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising against German occupation in World War II that began on Aug. 1, 1944.
Fans attending the show were warned ahead of time, as air raid sirens rang out at 5 p.m. local time, with a Polish news site Onet stating, “The entire city will stop for a moment and alarm sirens will sound. We ask you to remain calm and not to panic. In this way every year residents pay tribute to the heroes of 1944.
