FCC Chair Brendan Carr Reposts Donald Trump’s Demand That NBC Fire Seth Meyers ‘Immediately’

The long-running tension between former President Donald Trump and late-night comedian Seth Meyers escalated once again this week — and this time, it drew in an unexpected player: FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr.

It all began when Trump took to his social media platform and issued a striking demand: that NBC fire Meyers “immediately”, accusing the comedian of spreading political bias, promoting “hate,” and using his platform to attack conservatives. The post quickly went viral, but it gained an extra surge of attention when Carr, one of the commissioners of the Federal Communications Commission, reposted Trump’s remarks.

While Carr did not comment directly, his repost alone raised eyebrows across media and political circles. Critics argued that a federal regulator engaging with a political figure’s call to fire a television host could blur lines between government oversight and political pressure. Supporters, however, claimed Carr’s gesture simply highlighted what they describe as long-standing bias in late-night programming.

The tension between Meyers and Trump traces back more than a decade, beginning with Meyers’ cutting jokes at the 2011 White House Correspondents’ Dinner — barbs many believe played a role in Trump’s later political ambitions. Since then, Meyers has remained one of Trump’s most vocal critics on television, regularly dedicating entire segments to scrutinizing Trump’s policies, rhetoric, and legal battles.

NBC has issued no response to Trump’s recent demand, and Meyers, true to form, has not backed away from political commentary. Media analysts say the clash underscores a broader cultural battle over satire, politics, and free speech — one that continues to define America’s late-night landscape.

With Trump deep in another presidential campaign and regulatory figures entering the conversation, this latest exchange is unlikely to be the last. In fact, it may be a preview of an even more turbulent media–politics showdown ahead.
